“The vibe was positive and innovative” — these were some of the comments from those who attended the August 28 Maui TechOhana meeting, presented by Maui Economic Development Board (MEDB).
90 Maui entrepreneurs gathered at MEDB’s Malcolm Center to network and listen to how Jules Kremer, Engineering Manager at Google, got to where she is today and managed to work remotely for a decade, taking contract work as a software developer.
Kremer shared the challenges, the opportunities and the reality of working, staying on task, and coping with long distances and time differences.
Maui TechOhana offers an opportunity for Maui entrepreneurs with an interest in technology to network and to learn from invited speakers. Light refreshments are served to get the conversations flowing among attendees as they learn more about each other and how they can possibly support another and collaborate.
“A lot of Maui tech-entrepreneurs work on their own and remotely, so the Maui TechOhana brings everyone together to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the tech community.” said Gerry Smith, MEDB’s Director of Business Development. “Having a speaker share their experience and stories can inspire an individual and hopefully offer some new solutions.”
The next Maui TechOhana is scheduled for November 21 with details to follow.
