Lana`i residents interested in learning how to create a new business from the ground up in just one weekend, are encouraged to participate in “Maka Hou Lana`i: Starting a Business From Concept to Creation” on October 21-23. Presented by Maui Economic Development Board (MEDB), this three-day, action-packed weekend for entrepreneurs will be held at the Lana`i Senior Center from 5 pm on Friday through 2 pm on Sunday.
“There are so many things to consider when building and sustaining a business,” said Frank De Rego Jr., Director of Business Development Projects at Maui Economic Development Board. “The Maka Hou Lana`i weekend will navigate participants through the critical tasks and numerous challenges involved in starting a business from scratch. Newcomers as well as experienced business owners would benefit.”
In addition to the skills gained, attendees will also have an opportunity to establish new relationships with other business pioneers; meet with mentors; and get valuable feedback from experts in entrepreneurship and venture capital. A prize package will be awarded to the team with the best developed business idea as determined by our experienced panel of judges.
The workshop is FREE and Meals are included. (updated Oct 3, 2016)
Residents can also take advantage of the Pitch Bootcamp Lanai to help them prepare for Maka Hou Lana`i. Held on Wednesday, October 12, 5 pm to 8 pm, at the Lana`i Senior Center, attendees will learn to effectively promote themselves and their business idea to others comfortably and with confidence. The Pitch Bootcamp is specifically designed to give participants the knowledge and practice needed to craft and deliver their big idea in 60 seconds or less. The Pitch Bootcamp is free, dinner is included.
According to De Rego “Maka Hou Lanai will employ a hands-on learning, team-centered approach. No one will be sitting back during this empowering weekend. It will be hard work with a large dose of fun thrown in.”
Advanced reservations are required for both the Maka Hou Lana`i weekend on October 21-23 and Pitch Bootcamp on October 12. Space is limited. To register online, visit: www.medb.org/maka-hou-lanai or call MEDB at (808) 270-6811.
